NEW BARK TOWN
When you turn on your game, and select NEW GAME from the
menu, Professor Oak asks you to enter the time. After setting up the time and your name
your adventure begins.
You start out in your room, just like in the previous games.
As you make your way downstairs, Mom stops you, and gives you your POKEGEAR, just back
from the shop. Set the day of the week, and exit the building.
If you try to leave New Bark Town without going to the lab,
a girl will stop you. So go inside Professor Elm's lab. Who's that red-haired character
who keeps kicking you anyway? Professor Elm tells you that he has an errand for you to
run. A Mr. Pokemon in a house between Cherrygrove City and Violet City has made a great
discovery, and you are to find out what it is for him. Professor Elm is so nice that he'll
give you one of three Pokemon to take with you on your errand.
Choose wisely. The Pokemon you pick will be your partner for
the rest of the game. Cyndaquil, the fire Pokemon. Totodile, the water Pokemon. And
Chikorita, the grass Pokemon. In spite of what everybody says, they're all good Pokemon to
start off with. Though Totodile is weak against Bellsprout's Vine Whip, you will encounter
few in the beginning of your journey. Chikorita may require some training, as the first
gym is Flying, and there are several fire trainers early in the game, but don't let it
discourage you from choosing this great Pokemon. Cyndaquil, some people same is the best
choice. Not true. There are plenty of trainers with water Pokemon beyond Violet City. So
every Pokemon has its good and bad.
Once you have your Pokemon, leave the lab (the aide will
give you a Potion) and head west toward Cherrygrove city. Follow the trail of tall grass
that wraps around and goes further north and west. Battle wild Pokemon like Sentret and
Hoothoot to strengthen your partner. Ignore the building with the man in front of it.
There is nothing important about it. On Tuesdays, Tuscany will give you the PINK BOW (I'm
pretty sure it's the PINK BOW) here. If you like, you can come back later and catch a
Geodude, Rattata, Spearow, or rare Jigglypuff.
