Viridian City
Pokémon Center
When you first enter the city, you'll see the Pokémon Center. It has a small sign that says "POKé." Inside the Pokémon Center, you can heal your Pokémon for free. And there is a center in every city! At your right there is a PC. You can store items and Pokémon in the PC (again, for free). By the PC, there is a Cable Club. You and a friend's Game Boy should be connected by a link cable (sold separately) for you to trade or battle Pokémon. Traded Pokémon gain EXP. faster.
Pokémon Mart
At the mart, you'll get a package for Prof. Oak. Take it back to him at the lab in Palett Town, and he'll give you a Pokédex. A Pokédex is a digital encyclopedia and record of the Pokémon you see or catch. Go back to the mart and you will be able to purchase a few items.
Item | Cost | Use |
Pokéball |
$ 200 | catch weak Pokémon for yourself |
Antidote | $ 100 | heal poison (PSN) |
Paralyze Heal | $ 200 | heal paralysis (PAR) |
Burn Heal | $ 250 | heal burn (BRN) |
In Yellow, you can also buy Potions.
North, there is a man sleeping and blocking the road. He moves when you make your delivery of Oak's Parcel. After you deliver and he has his coffee, he'll be glad to give you a lesson on catching Pokémon.
There is a school and a closed Pokémon gym in the north.
Route #1
Go south and back into Route #1. Get into a battle in a grassy area. Battle a Pokémon until its HP is low or until it has a negative condition. You could get the foe into a condition by attacks like Ember or Thundershock. Later, you can use Poison Powder, Poison Sting, Twin Needle, Sleep Powder, Sing, Flamethrower, and Electric attacks. When the enemy is weak, select ITEM, POKé BALL. Keep pressing A until the Pokémon is captured.
Route #22
In Route #22, you can capture Spearow (Normal/Flying Tiny Bird), Rattata (Normal Rat), Nidoran (Poison Pin Pokémon), and in the yellow version, Mankey (Fighting Pig-Monkey).
If you keep going west, you'll be challenged by your rival.

Red/Blue players might want to wait until after Viridian Forest, the place to catch a Pikachu.
